2 Corinthians Lesson 5

Chapter 1:23-2:13
CAC, Sin, and Paul

There is much to learn from 2 Corinthians looking at the letter from a personal perspective. We will find answers to Questions such as:

(1)How did Paul exalt Jesus Christ and His grace? (2) How did Paul understand God's will for his life? (3) How did Paul relate to God and people?

SUMMARY
vv. 24, 9, 12 - DISCIPLINING GRACE: Paul cares about the sin
v. 23 - Paul wants a unifying resolution to the sin
vv. 24, 5, 10 - Paul Maintains a father/adult son relationship
v. 4 - Special love relationship of mutual joy
vv. 4, 6-8, 11 - HEALING GRACE

COMMENTS
Notice how Paul shifts from we (Team Paul) to me (Paul).






APPLICATION


  1. How does this father/son model affect our church planting?
  2. How does the model affect our mutual discipleship?
  3. How does this model affect the way we deal with the sins of others?

2 Corinthians Lesson 4

Chapter 1:15-22
God's Trinitarian Covenantal Faithfulness

There is much to learn from 2 Corinthians looking at the letter from a personal perspective.

We will find answers to Questions such as:

  1. How did Paul exalt Jesus Christ and His grace?
  2. How did Paul understand God's will for his life?
  3. How did Paul relate to God and people?


SUMMARY
v.15-16 In the confidence of the loving relationship of mutual discipleship Paul desired to see CAC going to and coming from Macedonia on his way to Jerusalem.
v.17-18 Paul is faithful as God is faithful. He is single minded in his commitment to love them.
v.19 The loving covenantal faithfulness of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

APPLICATION

  1. Study and meditate on God's faithfulness as it relates to the Trinity and to the covenant
  2. Communicate God's faithfulness by your faithfulness
  3. What is God faithful to? What are you faithful to?

Chapter 1:12-14
Clear Communication

There is much to learn from 2 Corinthians looking at the letter from a personal perspective.

We will find answers to Questions such as:

  1. How did Paul exalt Jesus Christ and His grace?
  2. How did Paul understand God's will for his life?
  3. How did Paul relate to God and people?


SUMMARY
v.12 Paul's confidence came from sincerity, holiness, and single mindedness. Not from fleshly wisdom
v.13 Paul has a long term committed relationship in view.
v.13 Paul is plain and straightforward
v.14 Acknowledges their lack of knowledge and/or distrust and the deficiencies of the relationship
v.14 Objective is mutual discipleship and pride
